Tottenham take on AC Milan in a Champions Cup friendly game on Tuesday, with both sides looking for the win. Tottenham have only made minor changes to their squad this summer, something that can really help them here. AC Milan have the majority of their squad available so are expected to play a strong team, while Tottenham still have some World Cup players missing.

Tottenham finished in the top four of the Premier League last season and that will be their aim once again. They have improved past London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea and are now looking upwards towards Manchester City with the hope of being able to challenge them for the league title. To do that Tottenham will need to add another couple of players to their team, something we haven’t seen from them yet. Instead they have focused on retaining their current players, with Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Tody Alderweireld important pieces that have remained with them for now.

AC Milan are no longer the force of old and right now they are struggling to keep up with the best teams in Serie A. Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli have all created a gap between themselves and AC Milan, leaving the former giants with no option but to try and go back to basics and build from the bottom again. They are playing some of the best teams in Europe during pre-season, and will be hoping to record some good results to put them on the right path once the Serie A season begins.

While AC Milan have almost a full squad to choose from, the same cannot be said for Tottenham. Their World Cup players are still unavailable, giving their squad players a chance to shine and stake a claim for more game time. However, one thing that Tottenham do have in their favour is that everyone in the squad knows each other and that can really help during this time of the season. Their togetherness and familirity is something not many teams have during the summer and that can be the thing that leads them to victory.

Tottenham are a far better team with all their star players in the line up, but they also look to be a better team without them. Despite missing key names like Kane and Alli, Tottenham still have quality and look capable of scoring goals. There are no players getting to know team mates or their new surroundings, everyone here is settled and looking to stake their claim for more game time while they have the chance.

I’m backing Tottenham to win this game thanks to that, and thanks to the little bit of extra quality they have compared to their rivals. There is no doubt that AC Milan are a decent team, but if Tottenham come and play to a level we know they are capable of, AC Milan will not be able to keep up with them and for that reason I’m backing Spurs to win this.
