Ajax Capable of Causing Shock at Tottenham

We have just four teams remaining in the Champions League, and two of them are set to battle it out starting on Tuesday. That pair are Tottenham and Ajax, and if you’d told someone at the start of the Champions League that these two would be meeting each other in the semi finals, they would more than likely have laughed loudly at the thought of that. However, after a tournament full of shocks, here we are now and one of these two will be in the final next month.

While it may be a shock that both of these have got through, and easy to understand and predict if just one had got through, the fact is simple and that is that both of these clubs deserve to be here. Tottenham performed brilliantly in the last round against Manchester City, and that game was so good that we have forgotten just how good they were against Dortmund a round earlier. While Spurs have slipped up a little in their bid for a Premier League top four place recently, they have been nothing short of brilliant in the Champions League knockout round.

Ajax have taken a tough path to get here, and deserve a ton of respect for doing so. You can knock one good team out in a lucky game, but to do that twice in two games that are played over two legs is certainly no fluke. Firstly they knocked out the current champions, Real Madrid, and they actually went to Madrid and won the game away from home to get through to the next round.

Then came Juventus, one of the favourites to win the competition, but once again the story was the same. Ajax went away to Juventus and beat them to get through to the semi finals, they are certainly doing this the hard way, and it has been a fantastic journey to watch.

Both clubs will see this as a huge opportunity to reach the final, and both will see this as the best possible draw they could have had, with Barcelona and Liverpool in the other semi final. The chance is there and someone needs to grab it, but who will it be?

Can Tottenham Score?

Tottenham have a huge problem going into this game and that is that their two most prolific goal scoring options are both missing. Harry Kane went off injured in the first leg of their quarter final tie with Manchester City, and that injury has ruled him out for the season. However, on top of that, Heung Min Son will also miss this first leg due to a suspension. That is a massive blow for Tottenham, and in a game where they really need a result and one that they want to attack in, they are going to have to find goals without their main two scoring options.

We are likely to see Fernando Llorente in attack for Spurs, and while he is an experienced striker and very good in the air, he is not a big goal scoring threat and usually acts as a link up man, bringing others into play.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by West Ham at the weekend and although they were very poor in that game, it was the final ball, and the final shot that really cost them. They simply didn’t have the players available to put the ball in the back of the net, and that team included Son, who will be missing for this one.

The Champions League can bring out the very best in players, and to a certain extent we have seen that from Tottenham this season, they are going to have to call upon that again if they want to get on the scoresheet and get something from this game.

Tottenham vs Ajax Betting Tips

A massive first game, but there is a lot about the situation of this game that is against Tottenham and I think this is a great opportunity for the away team. Ajax should come here with nothing to fear, they have won away against both Real Madrid and Juventus in their last two Champions League away games, and Tottenham shouldn’t offer anywhere near that kind of test.

Both teams like to play football, and they both like to attack. While I don’t envisage Ajax throwing bodies forward left, right and centre, I do think they will attack here and try to win the game. They will see that Tottenham have a weakened line up available to them, especially going forward and they will try to take advantage of that.

Out of the two teams, I don’t think there is much to choose between them, and I think both have an equal chance to win away from home in these two games. I’ve called it an upset in the title, but it wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world to see Ajax win this one, and that is exactly what I think they will do.

In what should be an open and very good game to watch, I think Tottenham will struggle to put together the final ball and put it in the back of the next, and I think Ajax will take advantage of that. I’m backing this young Ajax side to win again away from home in the Champions League, and take a step towards the final in May at the expense of Tottenham.
