Spurs to Sink Struggling Brighton

A game that has big implications on both the top and bottom of the table at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Tuesday night. At the top, Spurs are in third and looking to give themselves a little bit of breathing room ahead of their rivals. Both Arsenal and Manchester United will have a game in hand on them after this, but Tottenham will have points on the board with a win here, which is always the better scenario at this late stage in the season.

Down at the bottom and up until they managed to get a draw at the weekend away to Wolves, many feared for Brighton’s survival chances. They have been very poor over the last couple of months and dropped down the table to sit on the edge of the relegation places. While not yet confirmed, it is highly likely that the final relegation place will go to one of two clubs, either Cardiff who are currently in the bottom three, or Brighton who are directly above them.

As things stand now, Cardiff have 31 points from 35 games, while Brighton have 34 from 34. This is their game in hand, and it is going to take a huge effort to get anything here. That would leave a three point gap between the clubs going into the final three games of the season, so it is certainly all to play for down at the bottom of the league.

Both clubs needs the three points for their individual battles, and both know that those three points would take them a long way to the position they are looking for. With just four games to go in the Premier League, points are at a premium now, so expect this game to be a very well fought contest between two teams who are very desperate.

Champions League: An Opportunity or Distraction for Spurs?

Tottenham produced two fantastic performances to beat Manchester City over two legs in the Champions League quarter finals, and they are now in the semi finals. They take on Ajax in a week’s time from now in the first leg, and Spurs have two additional games, perhaps three, at a time when they really need to focus on their league form and getting into the top four. The Champions League is a huge competition, and of course Spurs would love to win it, but will it prove to be a distraction from their league form and getting into the top four, or will it give them a huge confidence boost at just the right time to get them up into the top four.

What Has Happened to Brighton in 2019?

One of the biggest disappointments of 2019 has been the form of Brighton, and how they have slipped down the Premier League table. Their move shows that even though you may be good enough to survive in the league, if you get into a position where you are struggling for form and not picking up points, your situation can change very quickly.

Assuming that Brighton get nothing here, they are going to go into the final three games of the season just three points ahead of Cardiff in the fight to avoid the last relegation spot. That does of course give Brighton an advantage over the Welsh side, but they should be well clear of all of this right now and they are not.

Brighton are more than capable of staying in the Premier League, and they have enough talent in their squad to be pushing for a mid-table finish, but it is confidence that is lacking right now. Somehow they need to survive this season, by how doesn’t really matter, and then over the summer they have a number of issues that need addressing before they can go into the new season, and hopefully remain clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham vs Brighton Betting Tips

A big game at both ends of the Premier League table, and three vital points on the line. Tottenham are looking to get into the top four for another season, and right now they are in there. Three points here would build a cushion, and with plenty of games coming up due to the Champions League, they may need that cushion to get them through.

Brighton have fallen down the league table over the past couple of months, and things are simply too close for comfort. They are in the position they are in, and while they will know they are too good for the relegation zone, this is the position they have to deal with, and scrap to get out of. I don’t think they will be expecting anything from here, and even if it is just one point, it will be seen as a huge bonus point for them in the run in.

However, I don’t see them getting that with the way they are playing right now. Take away the draw at Wolves over the weekend, and they have been awful in recent weeks and months, and certainly nowhere near good enough to compete with a team like Tottenham away from home.

Although Tottenham have Harry Kane’s absence to deal with, they still have goals in their team, and I fancy them to get at least a couple here. Combine that with their decent defensive play and this one will turn out to be a comfortable victory for Spurs.

I’m backing Tottenham -1 in this game, I think this will be a comfortable night for them.
