Luton Fancied to get off to Perfect Championship Start

The Championship season is back and on Friday night, newcomers Luton will play their first game against Middlesbrough. This is the start of a new era for Boro, with Jonathan Woodgate taking charge of the team in what is his first steps into management. Luton will still be on a high after winning League One last season, and they look more than capable of getting off to a good start.

If you look at these two teams, the expectations are that they will eventually finish in opposite ends of the table. Middlesbrough may not quite be good enough to mount a promotion challenge, but the top half of the table is where they are expected to be. Luton are among the teams in the relegation talk right now, but will be hoping they can do enough to survive, despite their small budget.

At the start of the season they will be looking to get points on the board and carry their momentum on from last season. I think they are playing Middlesbrough at the best possible time, and that is enough to give them a chance of winning their first game of the season, with the live TV cameras watching them.

Middlesbrough look like a team that could take a little time to get going this season, even more so with Woodgate in charge for the first time. That leaves them open for Luton to take advantage and get what is a valuable three points on the board.

A first game of the new season for both teams, and a chance for Luton to get something on the board at home to one of the bigger teams in the division. I’ve got a feeling that Middlesbrough will take some time to get going this season, and Luton can take advantage of that.

While I do think when we get to the end of the season, Middlesbrough will be far higher than Luton in the standings, in this one off game with the way things are right now at both clubs, I fancy Luton to get the three points, and they are rightfully favourites here.
