Manchester City to Beat Everton in High Scoring Game

The race for the Premier League title has taken three huge turns in the space of a week, and on Wednesday night we are going to see another. The tussle between Manchester City, who are the current holders, and Liverpool has been thrilling so far, and it is only expected to get even better. Tottenham are in third place, and while they don’t appear to quite have the quality to challenge, they cannot be discounted in what is going to be a thrilling end.

Manchester City head to Everton on Wednesday night and they know that a win would move them back to the top of the league, so there is a fair bit at stake for them in this one. Everton are in 9th, and their aim for the season is to finish in the top half of the table, which is where they are now. If there is one complaint about Everton so far this season then it is that they have struggled for consistency, and that can easily be seen from their most recent games.

The Toffees have won two and lost three of their last five games, and that has left them five points behind Wolves who are in 7th. That position will be where Everton want to be, and based on what we have seen so far from them, they certainly have the talent to do so, if they could put together a string of performances. That will be their aim for the remainder of this season, and with plenty of teams behind them queueing up to overtake them, there is a chance Everton could fall outside of the top half if they perform poorly.

While this is a big game for them, the game is all about Manchester City and all eyes will be on them to see if they can claim back top spot and really put the pressure on Liverpool.

The Premier League Title Race

After a procession by Manchester City last season, when we saw them comfortably lift the Premier League title, this season couldn’t be any further from that. Officially, we have three teams in the title race right now, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham. However, the majority of people will tell you that Tottenham are huge outsiders, to the extent that they can pretty much be discounted. They are just two points behind Manchester City though, and five behind Liverpool so it is probably a little early for that kind of talk just yet, despite their chances looking slim.

A win for Manchester City will take them above Liverpool on goal difference going into the games at the weekend, although City will have played a game more and they will only be ahead on goal difference. Despite that, the change it will make will be huge on the title race and especially on Liverpool. For the majority of this season, Liverpool have been seen as underdogs to win the title, and while they have slowly brought themselves closer to Manchester City, their odds have shortened.

Over the course of the past few weeks we have seen a switch that has placed Liverpool in the driving seat, made them the favourites to win it and we have seen the pressure of that move affect them. Liverpool played some great football during their spell as underdogs for the league title, but from the moment they have become favourites, the pressure has made them play much worse. They do not look the same team, and last night against West Ham they look tired and devoid of any creative ideas. This wasn’t the vintage Liverpool we have seen on other occasions this season, and certainly not the Liverpool that many people think can win the title this season.

If there is one thing that Manchester City have right now that Liverpool don’t then it is experience, and that is going to be huge over the coming weeks. The position that City are in right now, they have been there and done it all before. As current defending champions they are always going to have more self-belief, but the lack of experience in the Liverpool team makes the gap between the two teams even bigger.

Generally speaking, over the course of a season the best team in the league will win the title. However, when things are broken up into smaller segments and looked at, things like experience and know-how come into play and they have a huge affect. If that is what decides the league title this season, then Manchester City will be the team taking home the title once again, because Liverpool simply cannot match them in this area, regardless of the talent they have on their team.

Everton vs Manchester City Betting Tips

This is a big game for Everton in their quest to finish as high as possible, although obviously it is far bigger for Manchester City, who would love nothing more than to jump above Liverpool and take top spot back. That is exactly what I think they will do, and why I will be backing them for glory on Wednesday night.

Everton should play without fear in this one, and instead of trying to defend all game, I expect them to have a go at City and try to score. With City looking a little indifferent at the back in recent games, don’t be surprised to see Everton score here, which is why I am increasing the odds by adding both teams to score to the bet too.

I am expecting goals in the game, but ultimately Manchester City look as though they will be too strong for Liverpool. Just a week after letting things slip and giving Liverpool the upper hand, I’m backing City to come back strongly and win this game, while also taking back top spot in the league in the process.
