Liverpool Fancied to Give New Boys Norwich a Tough Time on Opening Night

The Premier League season is finally back this weekend, with the first game on Friday night featuring the runners up from last season Liverpool and the champions from the Championship last season Norwich. If you believe the predictions and betting odds on offer, these two are expected to be fighting at opposite ends of the Premier League table this campaign, with Liverpool hoping to overhaul Manchester City to claim the title and Norwich doing all they can to avoid the drop.

This is a tough starting point for The Canaries, an away trip to Anfield at any point of the season is tough, but doing this on the opening day of the season makes it even tougher. Liverpool will want to come out of the blocks quickly and put a marker down, showing their fans that they are up for the fight once again this season.

Although Norwich won’t want to say they are going to Anfield with a negative frame of mind, the first game for them will all be about damage limitation. Although it is only one game and three points on offer, getting off to a big defeat is not the start they will be looking for, although they may be powerless to stop that from happening if Liverpool hit the ground running.

This is exactly what I do think will happening on the opening night of action, and I do think that Norwich are in for an incredibly tough evening. Not only do they begin away, they begin away from home against a title challenger that has one of the best front three’s in the world. This is not an easy place to start, and I really fear for Norwich on Friday.

Not only do I see Liverpool winning here but I think they will show Norwich just how tough the Premier League is by winning comfortably. On the opening day of the season it is always great to show your rivals just how good you are, and by playing a day before everyone else, Liverpool get the chance to show what they have first and in front of a TV audience.

I’m backing Liverpool on the -2 handicap line where I think the best value lies. They are 2.16 here, this means they have to win by three goals or more, and I can see this game finishing 3 or maybe even 4-0 to the home side.
