The first World Cup quarter final look set to be a very good game between two good teams. France take on Uruguay on Friday afternoon, and the winner will find themselves in the semi-finals, and just one game away from making the World Cup final. Both teams have grown into the tournament, and look like coming close to their best around now, which is exactly the time when teams wants to be peaking. There is a lot of quality and skill on both sides, and we should be in for a very good game, which should be good for the neutrals who are going to tune in and watch this one.

The French come into the game as favourites to win it, and they are second favourites to win the whole tournament, behind Brazil. They started off slowly, improved a little but the best we have seen from them was in their most recent game, which was a 4-3 thrilling victory over Argentina. They didn’t look great defensively in that game, but broke with pace and caused problems for the Argentinian defence all game long. The feeling you get from France is that they are about to burst into life, we saw that to a certain extent against Argentina, but don’t be surprised to see more from them in this game, and in the rest of the tournament.

Uruguay have had a similar path through to France, they too were slightly disappointing in their opening couple of games as they eased into the tournament. They had an easy start, so it didn’t mind too much and they ended the group stages with a very good 3-0 victory over Russia. That made people sit up and take note, and they proved it was no fluke with another good performance in the last 16. They won that game against Portugal, beating them 2-1 and again looking like they are a very good outfit. Defensively they look fairly solid, but it is in attack where they excel, and Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez provide them with a constant goal threat.

World Cup Quarter Final Betting Predictions

When you compare what we have seen from these two so far, there is little to choose between the two teams. However, the feeling is that France may have even more to offer, and if they show that on Friday then they have enough in the locker to win this game, and becasue of this they are the pick to do so. Uruguay have to be respected and they have done well so far, and are certainly capable should France not turn up for any reason. However, the French are an interesting team and potential winners of the tournament, especially if they do show us that they have more to offer which they could well do.
