Colombia Set to Make Light Work of Qatar

Colombia caused the first shock of the Copa America 2019 with a win in their opening game against Argentina. Now they face someone who they should beat, in Qatar, and have to handle being a favourite and show that they can dominate games.

There was no dominance shown in that first game at all, in fact, it was a game that Argentina completely dominated and should have won. They had chances in the first half to take the lead but couldn’t find a way past the resilient at times Colombian defence. Then in the second half, two goals against the run of play gave Colombia what turned out to be a fantastic 2-0 victory.

The change here is that Colombia are now fancied to win a game, they have a little pressure on them and need to come out and show that they can also dominate a game, as well as soak up pressure from the bigger teams. They have the perfect opportunity to do that here against Qatar, who have been invited to join the Copa America this season as part of their preparations for when they host the World Cup.

Qatar got themselves off to a 2-2 draw with Paraguay, a highly respectable score and one they would have been thrilled with. However, this is a far greater test, Colombia are one of the few teams with a genuine chance of winning this competition and they are going to prove tough opposition here.

Colombia vs Qatar Betting Tips

While Qatar will have been pleased with their 2-2 draw against Paraguay, this represents another step up for them and I think it is against teams like Colombia where they are going to really struggle and show their weaknesses.

Colombia recorded a fantastic 2-0 victory over Argentina in their first game and while they will come here looking to play a completely different game, there is no doubt that the win there will have given morale in the camp a huge boost. They dug in and scored on the counter, this time it will all be about keeping the ball and creating chances. I think they’ll have no trouble doing that, it is the natural game for many of these players and with that in mind, I think they are going to take this game comfortably.
