Aston Villa Fringe Players Fancied to Shine at Crewe

The EFL Cup can often be a very tricky competition for punters to get right due to the amount of changes the teams competing make to their starting eleven’s. When Aston Villa travel to Crewe on Tuesday night they are expected to change much of their starting eleven from the team that beat Everton on Friday night, but that doesn’t look like it will be a problem for them.

Villa were promoted from the Championship last season through the playoffs and have spent a lot of money this summer in an attempt to stay there. This has given them a big squad of players, with not too many going out of the door. There are a number of that promotion squad that have yet to see the field in their opening three games and it is players like those who will be given the chance to shine in this one, a chance I think they will take.

Crewe have played five games so far in League Two, winning three and losing two of them to sit in the playoff positions. This is a game they will certainly be up for, and I doubt we will see too many changes from their normal league team. However, based on the expected Villa team that will take to the field, this is going to be far from easy for them.

Some clubs will backfill their teams with youngsters in this competition as they don’t have a big squad but Villa do, so expect those players to come in. These players all played a role in Villa making the Premier League last season, even though they are yet to feature during this campaign. There is a good chance these players will also be hungry to show what they can do to manager Dean Smith too, just to remind him of their talent.

A big evening for Crewe, but one that I think will eventually end in disappointment for them. They have a big task ahead of them here, and I think the Aston Villa team put out against them is going to be a very strong one.

Villa have a big squad at the moment, with a few players from their promotion winning team that haven’t yet seen the field in the Premier League. Expect to see those players here in this one, and expect that to lead to a comfortable victory for them.
